What Is a Swim Pace Calculator?
A swim pace calculator works out your swimming pace per 100 meters or 100 yards from a distance and a time, or predicts your finish time from a target pace and distance. Unlike running, where pace is measured per mile or per kilometer, swimming uses pace per 100 meters or 100 yards because pool lengths are short and splits matter at every lap. To predict a finish time from a pace, reverse the formula: time = pace x (distance / 100). If your pace is 1:30 per 100m and you want to swim 1500m, your predicted time is 90 x (1500 / 100) = 1,350 seconds, or 22:30. To find distance from pace and time, use: distance = (time / pace) x 100.
Meters vs Yards
Swimming uses two measurement systems. Most of the world uses meters, with pools built in 25m (short course) or 50m (long course, Olympic) lengths.
